Instagram Reels Cover Size: what it does
Reels covers are commonly prepared on a 9:16 vertical canvas, such as 1080 × 1920 pixels. Because a cover can also appear in smaller profile and feed previews, the central part of the image deserves special attention. Avoid putting critical text next to the edge of the composition.
Design for vertical video covers
A 1080 × 1920 image offers a full-screen vertical working frame for a Reels cover. Some Instagram surfaces show a cropped version of the cover, so text near the very top or bottom may become less visible. The optional preview guide highlights approximate interface zones without adding them to the exported picture.
When your original is horizontal, try Fit with a blurred background instead of forcing a narrow crop. After exporting, select the thumbnail inside Instagram and review its representation in the profile grid and Reels tab.
Preview a Reels cover as a vertical poster
Use the Reels cover preset at 1080 × 1920. Keep a face, logo or title away from the outer margins, then inspect the cover in the actual publishing flow since preview crops differ by context.
Before you download: limits and trade-offs
The tool creates a static cover image; it does not edit video. Text placed at the bottom may become hidden behind playback labels or account controls, so test a conservative central composition.
